Today I was flipping around the radio trying to find a decent song on my daily commute to work and heard one that transported me back in time: Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall”.

“We don’t need no education…”

Holy cow!  All of the sudden my mind raced back to 5th grade while standing in line outside of Mt. Spurr Elementary School in Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.  A flurry of memories rushed in as the song continued:

“Hey! Teacher!  Leave us kids alone…”

Suddenly, I remembered my year of:

• Curling my hair like Farrah Fawcett
• Looking like “Barbara” on “One Day at a Time”
• Delivering a speech in front of the entire grade school and landing the position of Secretary of Student Council
• Cheerleading  (Go Buccaneers!!)
• My first boyfriend (An older guy. Oh how those 6th grade girls disliked me for taking their beloved Jeff away.  Where are you now, Mr. Gleim?)
• Roller skating in a downtown Anchorage parade
• Riding my 3 speed bike wherever it would take me
• Sleepovers at my BFF’s house where I always won the dance contests
• Winning my first bowling tournament, complete with a nice swanky trophie to show for it
• Ice skating at the local rink where I envisioned myself as the next Linda Fratianne

Interesting how hearing a song can take you back in time. *sigh*  I loved every minute of it.

Why is it that taking a vacation from work always results in more work when it’s all over?  It’s a good thing I started the new blog while I was off, otherwise… more dust on itcatholicmom.net! *whew*

So here I am back at the office.  But wait, what’s that strange feeling in the air?  People moved into different offices?  A new face is on board?  A new organizational chart?  Fortunately, my location in the building and on the org chart hasn’t changed.  But I do feel uneasy… especially with the “reconfiguration” in progress.

My latest task: Create DVD Promoting Our City
(Better be good for the Site Selection Committee–we want to be selected for the new headquarters.  The pressure is on.)

I can’t even believe my eyes:

It was real, and it was fun… ok yes, it was real fun.

CS doesn’t want to continue with his swimming lessons, and I’m not sure what exactly is going on there.  This morning, he came to me with tears in his eyes saying, “There’s another reason that I don’t like swimming lessons… it’s because I have to wear nothing under my swim shorts.”

Ok, my first reaction is to comfort him and let him know we can buy some little Speedos to wear underneath his shorts.  But since he doesn’t know what Speedos are (and I’m not sure if they even make them that small), my words of comfort didn’t jive.

More investigating is needed… something’s up.
