A Piece of “Flying Purple Moose”

Published by itchick at 3:08 pm under Blog Stuff

BlogMe

After much arm twisting (ok, just a little bit of email nudging), Flying Purple Moose responded to the BlogMe interview.  I visited AAK for the first time after she pinned her location on my guest map and invited me over to her Space for chicken.  Chicken in Tanzania?  Surely, this had to be a joke!  But it was not.  AAK is a witty and sassy American dynamo living in Africa, and her writing keeps her faithful readers coming back for more.

We would all like to get to know Flying Purple Moose a little better.

She’s all that.  (You will enjoy.)

1. When did you start blogging and why?  Or talk about your blog.  What can I learn about you in under 5 minutes?

I was looking for a way to post pictures online for my friends/family to see. I was on MSN Groups (3 MB Storage) when I somehow stumbled on MSN Spaces which at the time had 30 MB’s so it just made sense. Then I realized I could type on it and off I went.

You can learn about me in 5 minutes from reading my blog that I am a bit weird. I mean, who picks up everything and moves to a third world country? And I am slightly weird. The things that I come up with. I wonder about myself sometimes. Also I am easy going and just take everything in stride.

2. How do you use blogging to build friendships?

Wow! Honestly, I never thought that I would make friends online. I think the first realization that there are still nice people out there was when I had 2 people send me packages all the way from the US at about the same time. I did not know them, I just visited them on Spaces. I have “paid it forward” and shipped some wonderful coffee overseas to a coffee addict and am now working on sending some Kangas (African cloth) to an overheated family. It is great. Sharing with people just like a real community.

3. Who do you read every day, rain or shine?

It is hard for me to get online everyday. I do not have a computer at home so I usually blog at work. Then even at work there can be power issues that make things impossible. The only other option is an internet cafe’ but I can not stand having all my links and things I use in one place!I always check my hotmail and I usually glance at Newsgator (RSS reader).

4. Why did you choose to share that piece of yourself in a photograph?

I’ll answer as soon as I take the pic!

(Editor’s Note: She hopes to send one after her weekend boating trip.)

5. How would you describe your writing style?

I write exactly like I talk.

6. If you could spend time with one person (other than your spouse, because really, let’s not rack up the suck up points here).

Hmmm… this is too hard because I would pick all my friends and family from back home. Why? I have not seen them in over 2 years.

7. What don’t you write about? Anything considered a no-no in your book?

People especially close people such as parents, sis, friends, hubby. All no-no’s to me. But I am thinking that co-workers might have to be excluded. I work with a guy that is just too interesting. The only problem is that I do not know how to express an Indian accent in typing. That is essential in my storytelling. When I tell the story in person it is so much better then when I type.

8. What is your favorite thing that you wrote? What got a strong reaction from readers? Links please?

I think my favorite thing that I wrote was my Eddo’s blog. I think getting the material together for the article was what really did it for me. I was being sneaky and taking pictures from my car like a papparrazi (spelling?).

Then of course I had to take a picture of the food. This is the blog that I went out to everyone who I read and invited them over for chicken. I think most people had not really given me the time of day until that moment when it was like, What?!? Ok, I gotta go check out why this girl has chicken at her space.

9. Are you and your blogging persona the same person?

I am the same blogging as I am in real life. I think people think I appear slightly different on comments to different people. That is the catch, you see. I have such a range of moods and quirks that I can appear very vulgar and crazy at one moment and very normal and caring the other. That is why my blog is pink and black. Sometimes I am more pink, sometimes more black.

10. If you had a super power, what would it be?

If I could have a super power I would most definitely want to read minds, but of course block it out when necessary. Of course I would not want to know EVERYTHING that I am not supposed to, but to be able to turn it on and gather key info would be really awesome.

No, wait, I think there is a better super power out there for me. It is newly invented by me - The be-able-to-eat-anything-and-not-gain-weight power. (BATEAANGWP) I think that would be more practical.

Did she just call my family “overheated?”

This was a great interview with a great personality. She has always been a hard AAK to follow. I just love her space. And I love the author of this space. There are so many more photos of the hot looking IT chick here. I am going to have to lurk for quite some time.

@aak: Thanks for taking the time to participate! Now let’s talk about that superpower… BATEAANGWP? Way cool. :)

@Mocha: Can you believe AAK invented BATEAANGWP? It’s all about the Tanzanian chicken. Gotta have BATEAANGWP for all-you-can-eat fried stuff in Africa.

@EZ: Just what I needed: A lurking blogger with… FLIRT BOMBS?!! Make yourself comfy and take all the time you need.
