GADS! Blog… Work…?
I’ve been wandering about in the blogosphere lately and abandoning my own blog in the process. Don’t worry. I’m still here. But after reading one woman’s blog, a little lightbulb went on in my head called, “GADS! Blog… Work…?”
While I’m fully aware that bloggers have been fired for posting material about work related events, I feel the need to clarify a few details with regard to my own blog:
- The wonderful (see how I added that nice adjective?) folks in my office not only read my blog, but they embrace it. (You know you do!) And at staff meetings? There are times when we discuss potential content for future blog posts. (Ok, it’s not at the top of the agenda. But it does happen.)
- Not only do coworkers offer suggestions on updates to my blog, they get downright competitive in getting themselves mentioned in it. (Back people! Back!)
- If my boss did not know about and enjoy reading my blog, I would not post work related information, leaving me with approximately 80% less blogging material and henceforth, less desire to blog. It’s a win-win situation.
- My blog places my employer in the spotlight, highlighting the positive impact the Sisters have on the community and my family. You can’t fire a blogger for that kind of PR.
So there you have it: My blog stays, along with the work related content of my choice. (Oh yes, I will continue to be tactful.) But if you choose to blog about personal work related issues, take Heather’s advice: “Never write about work on the internet unless your boss knows and sanctions the fact that YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT WORK ON THE INTERNET.”
Mine does. I’m honored, ladies. Thank you.

Never really thought about it….no one at all knows about my blog except my best friend, Jackie. Good suggestions… just hope I haven’t said anything too incriminating!
You always have the nicest comments, Ginger. No need to worry.
Awww… thanks. Also, thanks for your kind wishes on the sad news at work. Her family can really use all the thoughts and prayers they can get at this time. They are still recovering from the suddenness of everything.. we all are. BTW, you did an awesome job with the basement! ( We should so form our own co…. ha ha)
Thank you for your kind comments on my blog. I’m very flattered. Your spaces blog inspired me to start my own.
Love the pics of the basement. What a great place for your family.
I never blog about work, although it would provide plenty of material. I let slip to my officemate that I had a blog and now he reads it on occasion. I’m in no uncertain terms forbidden from mentioning him without his express permission, and our company is so small that I’d be nervous word might slip to others. So, no writing about work (or at least very little, and only in a positive light)!
@Ginger: Our contractor deserves the credit for the basement. He’s GOOD.
@Pam: The fact that I can inspire someone to do something so great means so much to me. Thank you for posting that comment and making my day!
@Ami: I try to keep my posts in a positive light, too. But right now things are changing quickly… and it’s getting harder to keep the negative out. Under the circumstances, I’m doing my best considering that I have nothing to lose.
I’ve written about what I do at work and shared funny call stories, but I don’t write about my boss, my co-workers or any negative things (because that’s on a secret anonymous blog — KIDDING!).
I haven’t yet shared my blog link with my co-workers because I’m not sure if their reactions would be warm. Maybe I’m just self-concious and after I get over that it will be ok.
What hole did I fall into? Didn’t realize I’ve been gone so long *sniffle*.
Great interview with AAK.
I’m jealous you get to work with the sisters. They have to be such a fun bunch of gals. They sound like a couple of my sisters fighting over what subject or what antic to blog next.
Whew! Glad you get to keep your blog girl!
Sue
@Dana: Funny how I don’t have a problem blogging about my work/coworkers, but I do with my family and friends. Sometimes I think I just need my blog to get through my daily employment trials and tribulations… yet I don’t want to get into trouble with the people I hang with personally. Thanks for posting your take on it!
@Sue: Yeah… are you dissin’ me or what? JK. Yes, they are a really fun bunch of gals, each with a unique personality. I’m careful about blogging on some of the more demanding ones. They’d have my head! (Fingers crossed, so far so good.)
