Cats Need Sisters (Brothers?) Too

Published by itchick under Pets, Sisters

Check out what I found while at the Assisted Living Center today: “T” taking a rest in Sister K’s room. Is it just me, or does T bear a striking resemblance to Manny? (Long lost brother, maybe? It could happen!)

While I Was Out

… this little problem was confronted addressed on the Sister’s network servers:
Note: Technical yet important advice here. Keep reading or be sorry you didn’t. ~ITCM

“The U.S. Energy Policy Act of 2005, passed by the U.S. Congress July, 2005, extended Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the U.S. by approximately four weeks. As a result, beginning in 2007, DST will start three weeks earlier on March 11, 2007, and end one week later on November 4, 2007, resulting in a new DST period that is four weeks longer than previously observed. These four weeks are referred to in this article as the ‘extended DST period’. Visit MSN Encarta for more general information on DST.

Unless certain updates are applied to your computer, it is possible that the time zone settings for your computer’s system clock may be incorrect during this four week period. This depends on where you live and which time zone you have selected. To see the time zone settings on your computer, follow these directions.

When your time zone settings are incorrect your clock may be off by one hour, and certain applications running on your Windows based computer may not display the correct time. To address this, Microsoft is providing many free updates and tools that will update your system automatically.”

My question is, didn’t Congress consult with any IT’ers before approving this extended DST plan? Don’t they remember the big Y2K ordeal? And will it really “promote energy conservation”?? Let’s hope pray hard on that.

Advice to Windows users: Turn on your Automatic Windows Updates, or else your calendar will be off between March 11, 2007 and November 4, 2007. (Better yet, print your calendar to be on the safe side.)

Big Ashy Forehead

Published by itchick under Catholic Stuff, Food, Stressin'

As I mentioned in a comment on the previous “Hell in a Handbasket” blog, I think Father M smudged a message on my forehead during Mass on Ash Wednesday. Oh yes, looking a little closer it’s all very clear:

Repent!

It says, “Repent now, oh popcorn-eating-blatantly-sinful-nonfasting woman!” See it? All smudged right there in ashy dust on my forehead?

This can’t be good for me—I’m really doomed now.

Powerful Winter Storm

Published by itchick under Books, Entertainment, Family, Weather

That’s how the weather peeps describe what the Catholic Family is about to experience, complete with 6-10 inches of drifting snow and near whiteout conditions. Good thing I’ve got plenty of things to keep me busy while snowed in this weekend (website consulting, bill paying, banking, laundering, bathroom cleaning, elliptical riding, dusting, vacuuming, reading, contributing to the online retail industry, movie watching, etc.) Catch up time has arrived!

Good one, Bill!Speaking of… this morning would be a good time to pay a visit to a favorite bookstore, Barnes & Noble. I’ve been reading Foxtrot with the Catholic Kids during our nightly reading time, and we just finished Bill Amend’s Wildly Foxtrot collection. So here’s hoping Who’s Up for Some Bonding? will be in stock, because that’s exactly what we’ll be doing this weekend… bonding. Or something like that.

Meanwhile, Smokie has plans of her own for the day. (And I have room cleaning plans for Catholic Girlie.)
