Dear God
You completely ROCK. I mean, ‘yes’ I was drooling all over that Administrator’s new notebook computer all week and didn’t really mean for You to crash my harddrive. But WOW! It got me a new Toshiba laptop that I’m totally in love with right now. Well, kind of. I’ve been configuring it all day… you know, importing email/favorites/contacts, installing programs, etc. And well, I’m pretty much sick of computers right now. But thanks for that reminder that one never knows when the inevitable will actually happen.
Like crashed harddrives.
Good thing for that new Nano that Hubs gave me for Christmas, because my music isn’t lost afterall. *whew* But that weekly backup routine that I should have been doing? Well, it slid a little… but Fall 2006 is better than nothing, so I’m counting blessings right now.
Let’s just say that I’ve learned a BIG lesson this week: Backup data/photos regularly and keep application disks handy, because you never know when God will take out the life of your harddrive. With no warning whatsoever.
Be careful what you wish for.

God giveth, God taketh. How would one backup their stuff anyways?
The cobbler’s children never have new shoes…admin’s never have current backups of their OWN data…ahh well. Fun to have a new laptop!
@mannyed: Hubs bought an external backup drive that I have to physically attach to my laptop for backing up my files, but I’ve been a slacker. Yes, ME! Not anymore. (But I might try networking that device to make it easier. Hmmm…)
@deannie: I know! Here we are taking care of everyone else’s stuff (heck, I backup the server every day and take tapes offsite in the event of disasters), but do you think we pay as much attention to our own needs? No. We care that much.
Oh my. I would love to have a new computer of any knid as mine is about 4 years old and therefore obsolete. My 17 year old daughter wanted a laptop for her brithday. She didn’t get it…and won’t be getting one any time soon. I might have to break down and get her an inexpensive desk top in the next year, though, as she is planning on taking part in an early enrollment program with a local Community college to take her senior year in H.S. and freshman year in college simultaneously. The death threats thing was creepy. I know that the very first comment I ever received on my MSN space was a nasty one that included vulgarity. It was one of very few comments I ever deleted. Enjoy your new tool!
Have a Blessed Holy Week!
Christine
Good lesson to be reminded of. I just happened to finish backing up the last few months of photos (a little tardy) before I logged on and read this.
