Clients!

Published by itchick at 11:13 am under Sisters, Tech Stuff, Work Related

As of today, I’m tickled pink to report that I now have 6 active clients outside of my regular job—the one that happens to be coming to a grinding halt within the next several months. Woohoo! The list includes an arborist, retreat center, life coach, grant fund non-profit, religious community, and a university conference. In fact, the external work that I’ve picked up has increased to the point where I don’t have time for an actual ‘life’ a good chunk of the time, yet I somehow manage to keep a balance going on. Abeit teetering.

Let’s go back in time for a minute. I started a Web consulting business in 1996 as a way to keep my head in the technology world while staying home with the Catholic Kids (or Catholic Babies at the time). The business didn’t take off right away, exactly why I accepted a part-time Webmaster position at a local College. Taking that position, apparently, was the golden ticket to attaining more web clients, and even landed me the IT position in which I’m currently employed. And yet the list of clientele just keeps growing and growing by way of referrals. Total dream come true. Pinch me.

Unfortunately, another era is slowly coming to a close leaving me without the steady, reliable income of a real job, and I find myself facing this reality alongside a fine group of professionals. Am I sad about it? ‘Yes’ to saying ‘goodbye’ to coworkers who’ve become like family to me. So am I looking for another job? I’m keeping my eyes open, but… why do that when I have a growing business of my own? In fact, having more time devoted to the work that I enjoy most sounds more and more exciting as the end draws near. As far as I’m concerned, the sky’s the limit—and without any ‘Come over and fix my computer!’ calls. Gotta love that.

Meanwhile, better get back to work while I’m still employed or risk getting Dooced.

Not to say I wouldn’t accept another job opportunity…

Congrats on the growing business! It’s a blessing to be able to make a living doing something you love!

I have a job offer that I am considering accepting…actually I am going to accept it. I just have to brace myself to resign from my current position.

They have been so good to me and I feel so guilty for leaving but it is really hard to turn down a substantial pay increase (huge even) and a national company that I can move with (important to an Army wife).

Here’s hoping that your business continues to grow by leaps and bounds…who knows one of these days you’ll have to hire yourself some help to keep up with the demand.

    Aloha!

@Missy: Thanks! It really is a blessing, I agree with you on that.

About that job offer? Sounds like you’ve got a ‘total dream’ opportunity right at your fingertips! Oh, you can’t possibly turn it down, can you? I wish you all the best.

And about hiring someone to help… recently I DID have to outsource a design for the first time. So far, so good. (But it was really hard to hand over, being the control freak that I am.)

    Aloha back!

@CD: You had to go and use the word fart on my site, now didn’t you? :D No really, I’m here to help. Just say the word!
