Sad State of Affairs

Yesterday was my sister’s birthday. Not one of my 4 step-sisters or my sister-in-law, but the one who I grew up with until she graduated from high school, married her high school sweetheart and moved thousands of miles away. We were at eachother’s throats throughout the 16 years that we lived together, and I’m not proud of the fact that I was almost always the instigator. And we stayed away from one another, so much that most people didn’t even know we were related. It was all very sad.

Administrative Professionals Day

Published by itchick under Sisters, Work Related

This morning the Sisters surprised all of us staffers in the conference room with a little coffee–bagel celebration in recognition of ‘Administrative Professionals Day’ that is to take place tomorrow. Aren’t those ladies sweet? I especially enjoyed the fact that not only were the Administrative Assistants honored, but EVERYONE was celebrated as an Administrative Professional! That’s right. The CAO, CFO, IT Analyst, Communications Director, etc. Makes no difference the education or degree, we’re all in the same boat here. No employee left behind.

Um, not to be rude, but I passed on devouring one of my favorite brown sugar cinnamon bagels during the celebration. Sorry, but this waistline doesn’t need to work off another 700 calories when I get home tonight. As if I don’t have breakfast and lunch to work off already, right? That’s not to say that I won’t sneak in the breakroom later this afternoon…

NO! Must. Resist. Be strong, woman!

Ok, off to the Assisted Living Center. My defenses are getting weak as the day goes on, especially with that brown sugar cinnamon bagel calling my name down the hall. It’s not easy being an Administrative Professional, you know.

Where’s that candy dish?

Catechumenators

Published by itchick under Catholic Stuff, Family

First Communion accomplished—a big AMEN to that! *whew* Thinking back over the year, I must admit that being Catholic Son’s primary 2nd grade CCD teacher (aka Catechist) hasn’t been all sugar and spice, but he was content with having ‘Mom’ at the front of the classroom so that’s all that matters. Lucky for me, another mom stayed on as a Co-catechist, even though it was really just a big conspiracy to be in the class photo and to control her son when he acted out. (Which happened to be CONSTANT, but let’s not go there.) And now, today, after another milestone is all said and done, you wouldn’t guess that teaching CG’s 2nd grade class 2 years ago almost scared me away permanently. Forever.

Praise God for amnesia. Halleluia. Halleluia.

Aside from seeing CS take Communion for the very first time, my favorite part of the Mass yesterday was listening to Father J talk about how some Catholic parents think children should make their own decisions in choosing a religion. They tell him that when a child is older, that is the time when they are educated enough to decide for themselves. With this thought process in mind, parents don’t enroll children in CCD. Father J’s response? “But that’s like letting children choose whatever they want to eat or wear. If you don’t help with such important decisions early on in life, you’d have a bunch of kids running around naked eating popcicles!” *fits of giggles*

On that note, I’ll end by posting a photo Catholic Hubs captured of me and the catechumens as I hobbled my way down the hall in my evil new shoes:
Shoes Already Annoying Me

Did I really sign up to teach 2 classes next year? OMG.

First Communion: Round II

What a day it was today! As my son’s 2nd Grade CCD teacher, I found myself leading the class through the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, aka ‘First Communion’ where I felt like the victim of a total paparazzi chase throughout the parish. Yet I wasn’t. It was only the flashing of parental cameras capturing every moment of the 1-hour event. I’m still seeing lights. Sleep should be interesting tonight, let me tell you.

Meanwhile, I’ve yet to find a few minutes to myself to upload/share the digital photos taken by my better half, Catholic Dad. He was the only member of the paparazzi whom I didn’t mind capturing undercover photos of the unsuspecting CCD teacher (me). Since I haven’t reviewed the images yet, I know there are a few unflattering photos that will need to be filtered out. (Yes, I did the ’stupid’ and bought new heels the night before. Bad move there!)

Stay tuned for more news on our BIG EVENT. It was that good.

But right now, I’m completely spent.
