Buh-Bye BOB

Published by itchick at 12:04 pm under Entertainment, Family, Holidays, Internet, Pets

Frizzia the CatMy sweet Catholic Family gave me some fantabulous birthday presents while we were on vacation at the Lodge, including a gray and white Webkinz cat named ‘Frizzia’ due to the frizzy looking fur sticking out all over her little body. It’s fitting that way. So finally after arriving back home, I’ve had the chance to check out my Webkinz online world. Let the excitement begin!

Ok, so in checking out the website, I’ve found this cool feature that allows me to visit the CK’s and their WebKinz pets when we’re all online together. And what else can I do? I can feed Frizzia, decorate her room, dress her up, play games, go shopping for all kinds of stuff with the KinzCash that I earned while winning contests, and more. And it’s all free, at least so far it is.

Fun right? Think again. Enter BOB, another online WebKinz pet owner and total stranger to the Catholic Family:

  • CS: Hey Mom! I added you to my list of friends and now I’ve got 4 friends!
  • CG: Yeah, I added you but I only have 3. That’s ok.
  • ITCM: Who’s the extra friend CS?
  • CS: Oh that’s just BOB. He has a humungous house with lots of rooms. He asked if I would be his friend so we could play a game together and I said ‘yes’.
  • CG: I don’t really know BOB, so he’s not my friend.
  • ITCM: Um, I’m not keen on BOB… and I don’t want him on your friends list, CS.
  • CS: I was going to delete him anyway. He hasn’t been online lately.
  • ITCM: *freaking out*

A long talk later, one that we’ve had repeatedly in our home and at school, the CK’s have been set straight on internet safety again. To think how quickly this kind of thing can happen, right under our noses! Creepy BOB situations like these are exactly why parents need to be extremely vigilant with regard to kids playing games over the internet. We are. Or so we thought until BOB mysteriously appeared in our home uninvited. *egad*

And I’d be surprised to find a little kid named BOB online with a majestic WebKinz mansion befriending other little kids…

Something doesn’t smell quite right there.

WHAAAA???? Uh…Yeah…BOB spells BAD in some ancient language I’m fairly sure. Good call on dumping BOB. I can’t wait for the day when the CGs become Internet active.

Yeah, BOB needs to get a life if he’s got all that time to build a mega mansion on Webkinz. We kicked him directly to the curb. :/

Good thing you’re an ‘IT’ Catholic Dad. You’ll be all ready for the CG’s when they get online… vigilant and all.

UGH! That makes my tummy turn. Props to you for being a vigilant internet mom!

That’s why computer is in family room with password restrictions when mom and dad aren’t home. I think tech savy parents have a better grasp of this stuff.

My computer had that name when I bought it because it was a floor model. It took everything I had to deBob myself.

I hope ya’ll have better luck.

    Weird and creepy.

I thought Webkinz was a safe place for kids - or that’s what I heard - I’m so naive.

Anyhoo, I spent some time there today and then I called around looking for one and here’s the biggest foot in mouth moment, I told my 7 yr old daughter. So guess what the only thing she wants to do today is? Yup. Go shopping all over h-e double hockey sticks looking for Webkinz creatures cuz they are few and far between in these parts. Lovely.

Your fault, just to let you know.

Actually the site looks like it may be more fun than Club Penguin. My son will love it.

@Mannyed: Mine too! Just when I thought I already WAS being vigilant.

@TBN: We have a computer room set up for them, door removed and all. But Bob still managed to sneak in through the bandwidth.

@Natalie: LOL, that’s too funny. We seem to have ‘deBob’ed ourselves easily… so far anyway.

    @CalmDragon: Rawr.

@Holy: Dang. Ok, use me as the scapegoat. I’ll take it in stride. Meanwhile, check Amazon’s marketplace. Seems to be the only place that can keep Webkinz in stock.
