ITCM’s Blog Cleanup

Published by itchick at 11:53 am under Aliens, Blog Stuff, Food, Internet, Lunch, Sisters, Stressin', Work Related, ranting

For you bloggers out there, do you ever go back into your archives just to make sure all of your stuff is still there and find CRAP all over it? Seriously! Like extraneous symbols inserted into your finely tuned paragraphs, the ones that you tirelessly sculpted into perfection? And do you have trackbacks (pings) coming out your ears, as if you don’t have anything better to do than rid your blog of gunk?

Holy Mother of God, people.

Let that be a little hint about what I’ve been doing between IT related calls here at the office today, because I would never let blog cleaning interfere with my support for the sisterhood. Ever. Really, I wouldn’t. However, I will let that Chicken Pecan Lean Cuisine frozen meal sitting in my cooler bag get in the way for just a few minutes… but that’s a whole ‘nother blog right there.

    Cleanup vs food.
    Now I’m hungry…

I’ve never had that happen to me! Although my back content is imported from Blogger via WP.com and has some really ugly code as a result. (only a geek cares about what the code looks like, under the hood).

Very scary. Good luck cleaning it up!

@CalmDragon: Food won out with me. Can you believe it?

@JeriM: Yes, geeks abhor that spaghetti code! Meanwhile, I think my gunk was the result of importing blog posts after WordPress upgrades. The timing fit just right. I think I’m done?

    Jeri and itchick:

how would one import blogs say from Spaces to Blogger? Any ideas?

your thoughts on gina’s question, Jeri? I’m clueless on Blogger’s options.

The basic process is you export from your old blog to an XML file type on your computer, then you import that file into your new blog site.

I did some checking… unfortunately Blogger has no import function.

Wordpress.com (the ready-to-use version of Wordpress) does, though.

And, on the flip side, Spaces has no export function, but it does have an RSS feed, which I believe could be tweaked and used as an export file. You wouldn’t be able to pull comments or pictures, but you would get all the content you’d written.

Note that none of the readily available blog platforms has nearly as nice integration with photos as Spaces - Manny might be unhappy about that. You can, however, put your photos on Flickr and run a sidebar like both Brenda and I have done.

If you’re interested in trying the Spaces-to-Wordpress route, I’d be glad to beta test it and write some directions. I need a post for my tech blog. ;)
