On the Road Again

Twin Cities Last night I thought it would be a good idea to visit a Caribou Coffee house before heading out of the Twin Cities, because Caribou closed shop back home leaving me with 2 loaded gift cards and nowhere to cash in on them. But then I had this ‘light bulb’ moment called: Go online and buy a pound of dark roast, that way we can make our way back home just a little bit quicker. So here we are on the road again, I-35 to be exact, southward bound with me surviving on Diet Dr. Pepper all fine and dandy. But I’ll be looking forward to getting that coffee later, mark my word.

Looking to my left is Catholic Son watching ‘Bionicle II’ on the portable DVD player and behind me is Catholic Girlie, also watching the DVD on her own screen. Suddenly I’m flashing back to last Christmas when we purchased our dual DVD player with cash received from the Sisters as a Christmas gift. And you know what? I remembered that this road trip scenario is exactly why we bought the player: to watch movies while driving long distances to visit family. How sweet it is to be on the road for over an hour pit-stop free! And how did we ever make it so long without this technology anyway? Oh yeah, road games… we’ll still do some of those too, but time (and mileage) really flies when you sit down with a couple of 2 hour long movies. Amen to that.

So as I sit in our big ole van typing this blog I realize that we’ll be home within a few hours. But meanwhile, I’m doing a little soul searching while driving through this place called ‘God’s Country’ and wondering how a state can earn such a name. Is God in one of the thousands of lakes out there? Did God strategically start up all those Caribou Coffee shops? Or what about that big honkin’ Mall of America in Bloomington? The Twins? Timberwolves? Vikings? Pannenkoeken? Ice fishing? Lutefisk? *eeww* Minnesota Science museum? Omni Theater? Valleyfair? Cathedral of Saint Paul? Or could it be a combination of all these things that draws God to this particular state in the USA? God must be somewhere around these Minnesota parts, don’t you think?

I think I just heard a resounding ‘Ya, you betcha.’

Woohoo! I made it through the password maze, finally. I tell you, Wordpress must hate me or something. The minute I change my password, it wants a different one. Anyway . . . I was going to say . . .

I soooo miss God’s Country. What a great time you must have had up there. Everything you listed is a treasure which my whole family misses. You know, we only left a sliver of family back there and whole group of friends (most of whom have moved on themselves by now), but our girls always ask when we’re going back to Minnesota. It doesn’t matter that their grandparents and cousins and uncles/aunts all live in Montana, their home is Minnesota. I beleive God is in the people of that place. It really is the friendliest place on earth. Someday we’ll go back and hopefully we’ll still have a handful of friends and relatives waiting for us.
