New Cook in Town
I’m not one for cooking, albeit I do have a couple of dishes the Catholic Family looks forward to eating on occasion, e.g. lasagna & mexican manicotti. Yes, Catholic Hubs has been the Man-of-the-Kitchen for many years, that is BEFORE I went on Consulting Status and received 3 new recipe books from the CK’s this Christmas:
- Classic RACHAEL RAY 30-Minute Meals ‘YUM-O!’
- Favorite Brand Name Incredibly Easy Weeknight Meals
- Campbell’s Slow Cooker Recipes
So far, so good. I’ve already successfully achieved a few dishes over the holiday vacation, can you believe it? Check it out, I’ve made these already:
- Sesame Noodles (thanks, Rachael)
- Maple-Mustard Pork Chops with Grilled Apples (again, Rachael’s recipe)
- Asian Turkey Burgers (Rachael, geez)
- Sauteed Snow Peas & Baby Carrots (Name Brand, you rock!)
And with that, I’ve been officially kicked out of the kitchen tomorrow so that Hubs can get some fajitas on the grill.
Show off.
Update 12/28/07: The recipe books are posted on my ‘Books I Dig‘ page. Definitely some good buys—Cheers!

Great, now I’m hungry…
What??
Fajitas….I’ll be right there!!
I like Catholic Hub’s pizza. But, this Rachael Ray’s stuff sounds mighty good.
@CD: Me, too. Good thing for leftovers.
@Nadine: You’ll be able to smell them all the way down the block. Just follow your nose right on over!
@red-t: Yeah, he made pizza on Christmas day, and it was yummy as ever. Rachael Ray is more my cooking style, I think. Neither of us like to measure ingredients.
I have both a Ray Ray and a Fravorite Brands cook book. Love em both. Manny has some beef (no pun intended) with your Mexican MANNICOTTI! Teehee.
I’ve read about 17 of your “Books I Dig” Chicklit books. We really need to start that bookclub!
@Gina: Sounds like the CK’s have good taste in recipe books, especially if you have 2 of them. Amazon didn’t recognize the ISBN on the Favorite Brands book, so I posted another RR one. That’ll be my next purchase.
Manny needs to have some of my MANNICOTTI… it’s to die for.
Bookclub! Yes, we must do that very soon. I’m running out of material in a bad way. How do we get started?
I’ve never bought a Rachel Ray cookbook, but have made some of her recipes off the Food Network site. My favorite is her mac and cheese Lorraine, made with sauteed onions, gruyere cheese and crumbled bacon. NOT a diet food.
Hey - if you’re thinking of a virtual book club, I’d be up for it! My reading taste is totally eclectic, SF, mysteries, lit fic, biographies, and chick lit. I’m not a fan of straight-up romance though…
Glad you had a great Christmas!
@Jeri: Yay! I was hoping you’d comment, being the extraordinary cook and all. I’ll have to try that RR recipe. It sounds exactly like one that CG would adore. (She’s a huge CHEESE head!) Thank you.
Yes, you must be in the virtual bookclub. I’m also ‘eclectic’ even though I’ve been stuck in the chick lit rut over the past year. There’s only so much of that you can take.
And NO ROMANCE. Sorry, but I just can’t go there either.
So we’ve got 3 members and need a bookclub name… ideas?
