Let’s Rock ‘n Roll

Published by itchick at 10:45 am under Blog Stuff, Bookclub, Books, Entertainment

Alrighty then! As of today, we’re good to go with a logo and guidelines, as you’ll notice in the sidebar over there under ‘Reading’. I’m even throwing out a book suggestion to get the ball rolling. Others are welcome as this one is not official just yet.

Book recommendations are open until the end of New Year’s Day. Got one? Post it here or send it to me via email.

Cheers, reader peeps!

Update 1/01/08: Odd Mom Out is not the first bookclub selection. Check the sidebar link for the current Book-of-the-Month.

Ooohh . . . I have to think of some good stuff to suggest. I’ll be back!!

    A couple of procedural questions.

How long do anticipate taking on a book? Many clubs do a book a month - others take longer. With my unusuallly fast reading rate, I vote for a set time frame per book so we all stay more or less on the same page.

And second, do you want us to promote this on our own blogs - as your club, of course?

I’m excited to get started - I’ll offer up suggestions in a second comment.

@Gina & Pam: Please do! You have great taste in reading material, so I can’t wait to see what you find.

JeriM: I’ve poked around on other bookclub sites, and a month seems to be the going standard. I’ll admit that I’m not a super fast reader, mostly because I like to multitask. So if the book is unusually long, we can extend the timeline.

@All: Yes, PLEASE DO promote this bookclub on your blogs. It would be fun to add as many bloggers as possible to our reading pool! :)

    Here are some suggestions:

Agnes and the Hitman – Jennifer Crusie & Bob Mayer
I love Jennifer Crusie’s writing – she is hilarious.

    Nineteen Minutes – Jodi Picoult
I usually enjoy Jodi Picoult’s books as well, although they do tend toward serious emotional melodrama.

Away: A Novel – Amy Bloom
I’ve never read Amy Bloom, but the book really interested me at the local bookstore a couple weeks ago.

@JeriM: Perfect—I haven’t read any of those yet. Thanks for the recommendations.

@Blogger Readerville: The first book has been released, Agnes and the Hitman. For more information, a link to the page is in the sidebar to the right under ‘Reading’. If anyone has questions/concerns for getting started, feel free to email or post a comment on the page.

Thanks to all for your help in getting this bookclub started!

Woohoo! Thanks for choosing it. I was gonna order it anyway. LOL

  12. escape2000on 02 Jan 2008 at 5:11 am

I am really looking forward to reading this book. Just ordered it and a couple of others on Amazon. Thank you for doing this!

@JeriM: Oh, and I’m keeping the other 2 for future reference. Nice variety.

@escape2000: Great having you in the club–btw, I even put a rush delivery on my copy. It should arrive by Friday (1/4). If all goes well, we can get started reading it by this weekend. Hope yours arrives by then, too…?

  14. escape2000on 02 Jan 2008 at 7:07 pm

I ordered it for Friday, hopefully it gets here by then. I also ordered How Starbucks Saved My Life and The Gift. It appears the only one that shipped is The Gift. Ugh. Amazon. Love/hate relationship there. I love reading, hate waiting…ok, Jeri, say it..I am SPOILED! :-)

  15. escape2000on 02 Jan 2008 at 7:07 pm

Oh and call me Becca, please, thanks!

  16. itchickon 02 Jan 2008 at 7:56 pm

@Becca: Spoiled? But don’t we all love that?! I know I do. 2nd/3rd Day Air was created for people just like us. :)

  17. JeriMon 02 Jan 2008 at 8:03 pm

Amazon Prime was created for people like us. ;)

  18. itchickon 02 Jan 2008 at 8:09 pm

@Jeri: How did I not know about Amazon Prime before your comment? Wowza! Thanks for that, I’m signing up.

  19. Ginaon 03 Jan 2008 at 2:14 pm

Ok, I’ll be heading to Borders soon to pick up the lastest selection. A great way to use my Borders Bucks!

  20. Holyon 03 Jan 2008 at 9:47 pm

I’m joining but I’ll check out next month’s read - I already have a stack of Xmas books I’m trying to get through this month.

Now I have to see what Amazon Prime is all about.

    Cheers!

  21. JeriMon 04 Jan 2008 at 7:07 am

Amazon Prime is $79 prepaid UPS 2nd day shipping for all your Amazon purchases for the year. If you buy from them and you’re impatient, it’s worth it. It doesn’t include Amazon 3rd party vendors, like Target or J&R Computers or whatever.

My book will be here tomorrow - I’m looking forward to diving in!

  22. itchickon 04 Jan 2008 at 3:48 pm

@All: Good thing my book won’t be arriving until today… I’ve been knee deep in a new client’s website development. As soon as it hits my doorstop today, I’ll be ready to get the first book timeline started. Keep an eye on the book page for the latest info!

@Gina: Yay! Glad I could be of help in cashing in those Borders Bucks. Thanks for spending them on the first book.

@Holy: Sounds like a plan to me. How about if we have Jeri pick out a Science Fiction book for us next time? It’s been so long since I’ve read one of those that I don’t even know what to look for. Hmmmm?

@JeriM: That’s quite the deal. And with my antsy kids, it will be $79 well spent. (Ok, I’m the antsy one. *shhh*)
