Semi-Retirement?

Published by itchick at 9:29 pm under Blog Stuff, Catholic Stuff, Family, Stressin', Work Related

No way, José. While on a call with family recently, I was asked:

So how’s that semi-retirement treating you?

And I had to laugh with a furrowed brow, mostly because I’ve been fielding calls from the Mother House as the on-call consultant WHILE developing and launching 2 brand new websites from the ground up. Let me tell you, the only thing holding me together is the freedom to work in the comfort of my own home office on Sundays while still in my jammies. Seriously.

As it turns out, God gave me a nudge at just the right moment - because had I not resigned and changed employment status to a consulting basis when I did, I would’ve pulled the hair right out of my head due to overload stress sending the whole wide world running in the opposite direction. So basically, the timing was perfect.

Meanwhile, in the event that you’re wondering how my ‘Semi-Retirement’ is going these days, think again. All I can say is that the Lord works in mysterious ways, and I’m all for the way it’s working right about now. *genuflects*

As a virtual office worker, I can agree - working in jammies IS a nice benefit. My problem is that I get so caught up in the madhouse that is work that I find myself ducking into the shower 20 minutes before my husband gets home so he doesn’t think I’m a total slug.

Congrats on seeing your business take off!

I would never use ITCATHOLIC MOM and semi-retirement in the same sentence. Unless its ITCATHOLIC MOM is not in semi retirement.

Good luck with everything taking off!

@JeriM - If Hubs only knew! :) Actually, he’s probably onto you… unless you tend not to steam up the shower. (Total giveaway right there.) And ‘Thanks!’ The business has been non-stop, just the way I wanted it.

@Gina - Exactly! The nerve. Anyone who knows me is aware that slowing down is completely against my nature. Wouldn’t make a very good retiree.
