Political Junket
Ever since Catholic Girlie decided to join the city-wide elementary strings orchestra, my whole ‘day of rest’ thing has taken a backseat to providing taxi and refreshment service. Which is fine. Who can complain about free entertainment on early weekend mornings until the orchestra actually hits the stage, right? Not me. These kids are really good. And so what if bathroom cleaning falls on Sundays for a few weeks. It’s kind of a nice trade-off that I can live with.
Only, hold on just one minute…
Um, hello Omaha? You’re telling me city officials were fully aware of the fact that a certain Democratic caucus was going to descend upon all of us strings families at the public school where our kids practice AND DECIDED NOT TO TELL US ABOUT IT?!?! What were these people thinking?! Wait, they obviously were NOT thinking, because if they had been they would’ve avoided the mass chaos that clogged up many areas of the city on a freezing cold wintry morning.
Picture CG walking alongside me as I carried a big ‘ole honkin’ cello down the street in icy cold temps, in the outlying neighborhood several blocks away from the school where we were forced to park, because thousands of caucus’ers and grumpy police officers (meanies!) blocked off all existing school parking lots, keeping us from our intended destination: the school band room. Anyway, I wasn’t the only parent completely ticked off livid as we worked our way past the thousands of voters lining the halls of the school. We were one cantankerous bunch, and wearing our best scowling faces to prove it.
And then, what’s that noise? PEP RALLY-like behavior next door?! Get some voting done out there, people! *sigh*
So after all was said and done, I found there was only one way to overcome the trauma of the day: HANDBAG SHOPPING.
(I’m feeling so over it now.)

I wondered about how the caucuses would affect The Catholic Family. Geeze, they could at least tell the parents so you wouldn’t have to schlep the cello all over the place. Love the new handbag. Sooo worth the hassle!! Hope you’re staying warm.
Oh, and yes, the day of rest thing is still working out for me . . .
@Pam - I was in complete shock after arriving at the school to find that mess. And as it turned out, one of the moms knew about it a week ahead of time and wondered why the conductors didn’t get the word out to everyone else. So do we blame the city or the conductors who were aware of the potential for traffic that morning? How about both? At least then I’d have been prepared for the schlep time.
Thus the handbag. Thanks for loving it too.
So glad your day of rest is still happening! That’s my new goal after this whole orchestra thing is over.
Great handbag. A new handbag usually fixes most ills.
Enjoy.
lusting after your handbag…(is that okay to do during lent)…
@dragonfly - Fixed mine, and then some!
@Gina - As long as your Lenten promise wasn’t, “I will not lust after stylish handbags.”
