Political Junket

Ever since Catholic Girlie decided to join the city-wide elementary strings orchestra, my whole ‘day of rest’ thing has taken a backseat to providing taxi and refreshment service. Which is fine. Who can complain about free entertainment on early weekend mornings until the orchestra actually hits the stage, right? Not me. These kids are really good. And so what if bathroom cleaning falls on Sundays for a few weeks. It’s kind of a nice trade-off that I can live with.

Only, hold on just one minute…

An Unexpected Change in Plans

After ever-so-patiently waiting for the Amazon Marketplace seller to send me the coveted Science Fiction book that was recommended as our next read by Jeri, I’ve just found out the dude isn’t even mailing it until after February 11th. That means it might not reach my doorstep until Feb. 25th! But NO! We want our Chicken Lit book now, don’t we?

At least I do, so plans have changed. (Sorry, Jeri. Please forgive me while on your personal vacation - we’ll be ready for the Sci-Fi when you return.)

DSC02375Holy will be happy to know that ‘The Senator’s Wife’ by Sue Miller has been moved up in the book list and now holds the position of: Book #3. I’ll post a reading/discussion timeline later today, so please pick up your own copy and stay posted for more information.

It looks mighty good so far… I must say.

Update 2/10/08: The timeline is live - let the reading begin!

Slightly Off Kilter

TunafishThat would be me after a long day of fasting and feeling all faint during Ash Wednesday’s mass, then eating a tuna melt at Culver’s that I felt the need to work off on the elliptical afterwards. Who pulled the dumb there? And it only got better at 2:00 a.m. when a little voice woke me up with “Mom, I peed the bed.”

Okee dokee! One less set of sheets to change on laundry day.

Even after 2 cups of espresso, I’m still feeling a bit off this morning. Yet meanwhile, life continues onward because the world doesn’t just stop after someone pees the bed and wakes up Mom in the middle of her peaceful slumber. It’s true, I just checked.

Oh, about that bookclub read? My copy should arrive today, and you can expect the timeline to go up soon after. Join in for the greater good and the chance to win a fancy parting gift: Chicken Lit Tile Coaster

Super Fat Tuesday

Yes, not only is today ‘Fat Tuesday’ during which time Catholics everywhere are reminded that it’s the last day before Lent that they can EAT ANYTHING THEY WANT, but it’s also ‘Super Tuesday’ in the political world here in the USA. So I thought the name of my blog was creative, unique and even kind of funky - at least until I overheard several teachers at the CK’s school tossing that little phrase around like they just thought it up. Spoilers. So much for that bubble burst!

Anyway, I’m back at home catching up on consulting duties and doing this, because it’s snowing like mad outside and snacks are off limits during Ash Wednesday’s fast tomorrow:
Fat Tuesday Snack

And I do promise to try to be good in my eating habits tomorrow, even if it means chewing a few more sticks of gum between meals. Because, as you know, I’m a huge snacker. But there will be no repeat of last year’s faux pas. Nuh-uh. Even the original Catholic Mom caught me in the act of that particular sinful behavior, and we don’t want to see it happen all over again.

You should worry about me.
