Dealing with Blog Issues
Intermittently throughout the day, I’ve been dealing with blog issues that I won’t go into detail here. However, out of this whole dealing process I must say that leaving my ITCM look/theme has been more difficult than at first I’d imagined. But it must be done… and so I’m on the lookout for a new theme that will do the following for this blog:
- Support widgets. Got to have those here, including one that is Flickr related to display photos.
- Allow me to change the banner. Generic banners are just. not. my. style.
- Simple yet elegant. I don’t do the busy look - less is more.
Anyway, that’s only a small part of what I’ve dealt with in this blog today… that and the question of Do I really want to deal with the crap that goes along with maintaining a blog anyway? Yes, I’m unhappy about recent blog-related events, and yet not ready to throw in the towel after a lost Saturday. Stay tuned.

I just went through this, since my previous theme had a rash of troubles. In searching for a new theme with similar requirements, with the ability to change a banner, I came up with these: Mandigo & Chameleon. I went with Chameleon, which required some custom php & css word to replace that generic banner - but the new one wasn’t hard.
Mandigo seems pretty cool, I’m using it on my inactive ungeekit.com site. It has multiple color schemes and can be configured in 2- or 3-column. And, of course, swapping out the existing images should be pretty easy.
Another blog I like, Whatever, uses the SeaShore theme but I’m not sure on full widget support with that one, I haven’t tried it.
I’m not hyperlinking all those theme names - maybe google them? - since it would most certainly land me in the moderation or spam queue.
Good luck!
As a side note, I’m still dealing with performance probs & big slowdowns on Smug Puppies, so annoying! I’ve upgraded WP, tried deactivating a plugin at a time, added wp-cache, and repaired/optimized all my DB tables. I have no idea what it is, I just enabled error logging and maybe it will give me some details. So I hear you on the lost day - Sunday, here.
Such great advice, Jeri! I am going to set aside some time this weekend to look into all the themes you mentioned here. Not that I want to lose another day, but if one works it’ll be worth the time spent. Thanks a million - and best of luck to you, also.
Now if the hacker from Queenland would just come forward… I’m really getting tired of the cleanup, thanksverymuch.
