End of Era
It’s all happening so fast. In a nutshell, I truly believe school administrators have a strategic plan in place for students who are finishing out the end of elementary school and embarking into the big MIDDLE SCHOOL experience, and that plan is to:
Bombard kids and parents with as much activity as humanly possible to keep them from realizing what is about to happen to their lives.
So now that I’m onto these people, I just have one request: Can’t we just skip it and say we did? You know. Skip all of the painful experiences of puberty and tween-hood, and move right on to high school - or better yet college? Because I’m really wanting to breeze right past this whole complete and utter trauma. *sigh*
Lord help this ITCM. :’(

The block quote seems to have messed up the paragraph below it… I’m aware of this.
Oh, ITMom . . . been there, done that. Wish you the best of luck with the whole middle school/high school experience. If you need a shoulder to cry on, just holler. I’ll bring cookies!
@Pam - I don’t know what’s worse, being the middle school’er or the parent of one. Looks like I’m about to find out. Thanks for the shoulder… and cookies, of course!
This week was especially hard… seeing your child lose a best friend is the absolute worst thing to witness.
That is tough, I’m sure you can pull some positive memories from this whole season.
@CD - After all was said and done, I think the ‘break-up’ appeared more traumatic to me, when really it was a good thing for everyone involved. But we still have middle school to deal with… let’s hope for a smooth ride.
funny, i dont remember the transition between elementary and mdidle school to be so bumpy…I just remember being so darn busy with activites - d’oh!
Can I ask what happened with CG?
@Gina - I’ve been noticing that her BFF is no longer, which doesn’t seem to bother CG on the surface. But deep down, I really do believe it’s affecting her. I’m having trouble not going into the parent side of things here on my blog… very, very hard.
As background, CG’s quite gifted and has recently been noticed by the school district and administrators - in which case, I sense that former BFF is harboring some jealousy and resentment. At least all of CG’s activities and involvements are providing opportunities to branch out and do things with new friends. So now we just have to continue to be supportive in whatever choices she makes.
It was a huge transition for all of us to middle school this year - the homework has been so intense - mind you I guess that comes with Holy Son having made it into one of the top 10 schools in the country. He’s done really well and is maintaining all As and B+s but holy toledo….no rest for the wicked.
And the girl drama stuff - in some ways I’m glad I have a son but in other ways - egads - he gets sucked into all the girl drama stuff because he’s everyone’s friend and half of them have crushes on him. Twice this year, he got duped into asking a girl that like him out (all the friends haunted him til he did), and then not long after, these same friends talked the girls into breaking up with him. One later regretted it because she still liked him but he said oh well, too bad, so sad - you broke my heart. These are 11 and 12 year olds.
And the dances - yikes - by day, these girls dress conservative and tween shopish - by night, all I can say is make sure you sign up to be a dance chaperone.
The 8th grade girls are freak dancing and just two days ago, two were caught drinking supposedly vodka - major scandal because this is such an academic, nerdy brain school - oh the joys.
So yeah, the girl dramas at that age are huge.
What I most like is being able to check grades and assignments online - that’s awesome.
