Today I watched and listened to my daughter as she delivered a speech with such extreme finesse that it shocked the pants right off me. The pride that I felt was overwhelming as she worked the audience with her words and expressions talking about her patriotic hero, Mercy Otis Warren. All the while I’m thinking, “Where did this girl get such confidence for public speaking?” Is the apocalypse here and now? I’m all over it.

It’s Friday an I’m on my way out the door after a long, busy week with school, work, teaching CCD and consulting on the side. The best news of the day? My boss handed me a copy of my performance review, and I’ll be meeting with her on Monday to discuss it further. And guess what?
I just finished reading it.
Oh. My. God. Goodness Gracious.
I’ll just leave you with this… WOOHOOOOO!
Now, if only the Huskers would beat USC tomorrow on the football field, then I’d really be living a dream.
Party on, Garth.

Scandal: Cheerleaders Run Amok in Texas - Newsweek Society - MSNBC.com
Yes, I heard about this story on the Today Show yesterday morning, and wouldn’t you know? I’ve been wanting to blog some choice words about it ever since. This former Rah-Rah has something to say, and I’ll make it plain and simple:
Skipping school? Cheating on tests? Intimidating students? This is not breaking news! In fact, pick any random school in any city during any decade and conduct an investigation on scandalous behavior within teams or clubs, and you will find this to be the norm, especially amongst cheerleaders. (I’m not going to lie about that fact.) And what’s this? Administrators did NOT kick the “Fab 5″ girls off the squad? No surprise there! Plain old politics at work.
Let’s talk about why this so-called “scandal” even made news. The key factors: easy access to technology and the availability of services allowing teens to broadcast video. Basically, the Texas cheerleaders were stupid enough to draw attention to themselves and their obnoxious behavior by posting clips online, then they became targets of an investigation. So now, thanks to these lovely girls and their computer savvy–ness, the world has a true glimpse of reality. Well done, ladies.
Amazing. I’m actually shaking my head in wonderment about how technology has changed the way we see the world in this day and age. Back when I was a cheerleader in the late 80’s, we were downright lucky to have competitions captured on video tape, let alone have the ability to create raucious movies to post on the internet for the world to see. (And yes, even my Mother would be shocked to know what went on back then.) So I guess I should be glad for that, lest it come back to haunt me one day…
Did you ever think of that, oh “Fab 5″ rah rahs?

This is just a Photobucket video test for my blogger friend, Sue. (Ok, yes that’s me, 2nd in line by the yellow partition, and you can stop laughing at my fluffy ponytail “big hair” anytime now.)
Ok… we’re all done with fluffy retro woman now. Thanks for sharing my big spotlight moment with me.
