Last night was huge in the way of performing arts, and Catholic Girlie and I had a big taste of music mastery that will go down in the history books. Together we attended this concert that was described in local reviews as ‘exquisite as Fodor’s violins’ which left us mystified as we sat glued to our seats for over 2 hours. Never before had we witnessed such a dazzling performance, or had we been in the same room with musical instruments valued at over $20 million. And that’s not a typo - $20,000,000.

Talk about unworthiness, we should’ve finished the night with a big Buddha stretch in honor of it all. It was just that amazing.

Of happiness, of course. Because not only did she sound ever so lovely while playing her heart out on that cello of hers, but listening to that particular piece left me longing to have had her play for a certain wedding that took place almost 15 years ago… the one where Catholic Hubs-to-be and I were married, also the one where our musician completely BOTCHED ‘Canon in D’ as I cringed all the way down the aisle on my way to the alter. Our Piano Dude sounded almost exactly like me on the piano, only I don’t actually play piano. You get the idea.

Being someone who once performed on stage in a previous life (oh yes, it’s true), I just can’t let the day go by without posting a blurb here about Britney Spears and her latest embarrassing moment of the century, as witnessed during MTV’s VMA (Video Music Awards). It’s all the buzz today, because well, she’s Britney Spears, and mass media eats that stuff up and feeds it to the public as if we need to see these kinds of things. Even Matt Lauer looked horror stricken after reporting about the incident on the Today Show this morning, a guy not easily shocked by pop star chicks. Or so it seems. But back to the topic at hand: Britney Spears at the VMAs.

So did you see this video? And are you as utterly gobsmacked about it as I am? Talk about trainwreck, you just can’t look away from the bad lip synching, wobbly dance moves, horrid hair extensions, and total look of deer-in-the-headlights as poor Britney gets upstaged by her fellow dancers. Can you say OUCH!?

And yet still, the downward spiral is almost too horrible to watch. Someone please help that woman before she loses any more of the dignity she has remaining. Otherwise, I’m afraid to see an Elvis situation all over again.
